Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) is an very essential medical loading material for pharmaceutical products, food, ceramics, cosmetic, paint, petrochemical and other industries. In this research, we prepare MCC from kapok. We prepared MCC from kapok by using the heterogeneous acid hydrolysis. The product were compare with commercially available MCC (Avicel PH 101 from FMC Corporation). It was found that the latter and MCC from kapok had simnilar crystallinity as measured by X-ray diffraction. This microcrystalline cellulose product from this research will encourage local industries to uprise the MCC product in mass production volumes in Thailand.
