A study for life cycle assessment of power generation from woody biomass was made on the assumption that 150 plants of which capacity is about 5000 kW were constructed in Japan. In that case, 50% of woody biomass which is potentially available can be collected and transported to the plants. For power generation by biomass combustion, it is assumed that the efficiency of power generation is 20% . About 58, 000 ton-CO2 can be avoided at one plant site by replacing coal with woody biomass. If 150 plants are constructed and operated, about 8.7 Million tons -CO2 can be avoided. Economic analysis shows that outgo exceeds income even if electricity and heat are sold at moderate price, and this deficit needs compensation by RPS etc. to make this system economically feasible.
