In spite of whatever of excavation method, it is inevitable that the underground development activity causes some effects to surface affairs. The development that harmonizes with the environment becomes important as the interest of the citizen for the environmental problems rises recently. The positive challenge of the remediation will be the key for the successful development. This paper reviews the state of subsidence due to underground development in Japan. Next, the remediations against them are discussed from a viewpoint of geo-environment. Policy for solution of problems and the re-vitalization of the affected districts are proposed.
