The development harmonizing with environment is being paid more and more importance with the increase concerning the environmental problems in China. The current state of coal mining and its impacts on geo-environment is reviewed, especially for the subsidence due to underground mining and the corresponding countermeasures against them in a view of geo-environment. Also, the new technology of GIS used in the prediction and environmental assessment is discussed
