In January 2024, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) amended the time series of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) index and the North Pacific gyre oscillation (NPGO) index (https://www.data.jma.go.jp/tcc/tcc/products/elnino/decadal/pdo.html), which were used in Shibata and Naoe (2022). As a result, the time series of the NPGO index was substantially changed, while the effect on the PDO index was very slight. In line with this amendment of the PDO and NPGO indices, we recalculated the decadal time series of both indices and the correlation coefficients with the decadal quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO) amplitude at 20 hPa. Hence, Fig. 12 in Shibata and Naoe (2022) should be replaced with Fig. 12 below. In addition, the last sentence in the first paragraph in the left column on page 41 “The correlation coefficients of the decadal QBO with the decadal PDO and NPGO indices are 0.82 and 0.64, respectively, and the two coefficients are statistically significant at the 0.1 % and about the 1 % levels, respectively.” should be replaced with “The correlation coefficients of the decadal QBO with the decadal PDO and NPGO indices are 0.81 and 0.43, respectively, and the two coefficients are statistically significant at the 0.1 % and about the 5 % levels, respectively.”
