  The perpendicular anisotropy of Tb/Fe multilayer films depends on the thickness of the Tb and the Fe single layers. The existence of a compensation point up to a periodicity length of 3 nm and a well defined curietemperature up to a periodicity length of 3.7 nm reveals a long range antiferromagnetic coupling of the Tb films to the Fe films. For multilayer films with constant thickness of the Tb layer tTb but modified thickness of the Fe layer tFe the anisotropy is reciprocal to the thickness of the Fe layer (keffU α 1⁄tFe), which indicates the existence of a surface anisotropy at the interface.
