A thickness dependence of the structures and magneto- optical (MO) properties of Co/Ti (dCo=1.0∼4.0 nm, dTi=2.5 nm) and Co/Zr (dCo=1.5 ∼3.1 nm, dZr=1.4 ∼6.8 nm) multilayered films has been investigated by MO and optical spectroscopies and their computer simulations. All the prepared films turned out to have regions with mixed components of 0.3 ∼1.2 nm thick near the interfaces. The Co/Ti and Co/Zr multilayers whose ferromagnetic sublayer thinner than a critical thinkness of 2.6 nm showed different magnetic properties from those of bulk Co and Co thin film. The reason for the difference is analyzed to be connected with a crystalline-to-nanocrystalline(or amorphous) structural transformation in the ferromagnetic sublayers.
