We devised a new ripple-free dc current transformer (DCCT) circuit for high-accuracy, high-speed, high-reliability current sensing in power electronics applications. The new DCCT consists of a saturable core, which is coupled by two transistor-core-based multivibrators synchronized to two phase-clock pulses. We also examined a push-pull configuration using two basic DCCTs for detecting ac current. Circuit topology and operation are discussed in the paper. Experiments were performed for both ac and dc cases to evaluate the validity of the new design.
