Fragmentation by β-Decay in Tritium-Labelled Compounds, (I)

Theoretical Considerations on Dissociation of HT

An interpretation on fragmentation by the β^--decay T→He⁺ in T-labelled molecules is proposed. The ab initio molecular orbital method using the Whitten's Gaussian type orbital is applied to the case of the decay in an HT molecule. The result shows that at least about 60% of HHe⁺ as a daughter ion of HT does not decompose.
