Based on a suggestion of Prof. M. KONUMA, a study of the "epileptoid character" as related to occupation and constitution was conducted on applicants for drivers of a certain factory. The so-colled "epileptoid character" here is a character apparently rather normal and is much like the one following epileptics, i.e. neither psychopathic nor laden with pileptic diseases. As interesting results were observed in the survey, they are presented in this report. 1) "Epileptoid character" was note in 76 out of 200 subjects observed, i.e. in 38.0 percent. 2) Certain abnormal findings were noted in 14 out of the 76 cases on electroencephalography, as high as 18.4 percent, but those findings were considered to have no relations to epileptic nature. 3) This character was found in 78 out of 166 fathers of these 200 subjects (46.9 percent) and 30 out of 190 mothers (15.7 percent), respectively. Thus, this character was noted at a higher ratio among the fathers than the mothers. 4) The character was also found in 156 out of 667 siblings of these 200 subjects (23.4 percent). The character was noted at a higher ratio among the brothers than the sisters. 5) Frequency of alcoholic intolerance and potator strenuus as related to the "epileptoid character" was studied. Results indicated that alcoholic intolerance was found in 56 out of the 76 cases with "epileptoid character" (73.6 percent). On the other hand, potator strenuus was found in 7 (9.2 percent). 6) The above results prove that there are a remarkable amount of cases of rather special character trends as "epileptoid" in the workship of applicants of drivers, and that there may exist many problems regarding evaluation of merits and demerits of the "epileptoid character" as related to work in various industries and occupations from the practical stand point.
