Abstract

Change is accelerating in the environment of database producers, especially so-called"secondary" database publishers."Primary" publishers are reconfiguring their operations, often providing full text online services. Technologies to collect and store data are increasingly available to all market participants in the Internet Era. To cope with all these changes, sci-tech database publishers must develop a"value proposition" that is sustainable against the Internet forces. The presentation reviews CAS's strategy to increase the value of its services in this changing environment. The presentation closes with a model of end-user tool"SciFinder" and a model of the secondary database within a linked, Internet environment for accessing scientific information, the ChemPort project.
