Abstract
Recent advances in the analysis of glucosinolates in rapeseed are reviewed. Individual glucosinolates have been determined by gas liquid chromatography of trimethylsilyl ethers after desulfation or by high performance liquid chromatography of either desulfated or intact ionic glucosinolates. Methods for estimating total glucosinolates as a group have been developed based on analysis of sulphate ion or glucose produced on hydrolysis or by spectrophotometric determination of a glucosinolate-palladium ion complex. Most methods require an ion exchange clean up procedure to isolate and concentrate glucosinolates prior to their estimation.
