This paper discusses the transportation problems of the persons of advanced age in terms of travel characteristics for urban transportation planning. In recent years, there is the remarkable growth of population 68 years of age and over in Japan. Consequently, it is important for transportation planners to clarify the traffic behavior of the persons of advanced age, and to secure the mobility of these persons. In this paper, some methods are proposed and the case of Akita city is examined.
