In Japanese wooden cities there is an increasing need for regional evacuation plans for earthquakes and fires, and in addition, to devise a system to fire proof evacuation routes in built up areas. In this framework a study was conducted in Amagasaki City. A questionnaire was used to analyze the response of residents towards their living environment according to four main factors: 1. The repair and maintenance of residences. 2. The fire proofing of structures. 3. Community cooperation in reconstruction. 4. Residents response toward community improvements.
