THIS RESEARCH AIMS TO DISCLOSE WHETHER OR NOT PEOPLE FEEL A SENSE OF PLEASANTNESS IN VIEWING A PORT, AND IF THEY DO, WHAT FACTORS CONTRIBUTE TOWARD IT. FOR THIS PURPOSE WE CONDUCTED TWO KINDS OF SURVEYS ( INTERVIEW SURVEY AND MASS MEETING SURVEY ). AS A CONSEQUENCE, IT WAS FOUND THAT AN AREA WHERE A PORT-LIKE ATMOSPHERE IS FELT IS WIDER THAN AN AREA WHERE IT IS NOT SENSED, THAT THE SCENERY CHARACTERISTIC OF A PORT MAINLY \COMPRISES A VIEW OF A BANK ON THE OTHER SIDE OF A WATER AREA, THAT SHIPS AND WAREHOUSES HAVE HIGH "AGREEABILITY EVALUATION MARKS," AND THAT A HIGH RATING IS GIVEN TO NARROW WATER AREAS. WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT THESE FINDINGS WILL PROVE HELPFUL IN THE FUTURE PREPARATION OF PORT ESTABLISHMENT PROGRAMS.
