THIS STUDY AIMS AT CONSTRUCTION OF METHODS NOT ONLY HOW TO LEAD OPEN SPACES IN SITES SCATTERED IN THE BLOCK TO A DIRECTION OF IMPROVING ENVIRONMENT, BUT HOW TO IMPROVE THE BLOCK AS A WHOLE. IN THIS THESIS, THE FOLLOWINGS ARE DISCUSSED, (1)DEFINITION OF EFFECTIVE OPEN SPACES FROM THE ANALYSIS BASED ON THE FIELD SURVEY, (2)EXAMINATION OF HOW TO ARRANGE OPEN SPACES AND BUILDINGS IN ONE BLOCK, (3)PROPOSAL OF SOME NEW INDICES OF SCALE AND DENSITY, AND (4)EXEMPLIFING OF ONE IDEAL BLOCK PATTERN AND METHOD TO ACHIEVE IT.
