THIS PAPER AIMS TO CONSTRUCT THE MODEL TO DEFINE THE TYPES OF POPULAR IMAGES TOWARD THE RAILROAD STATIONS AND ITS TRANSIENCE. AMONG THE WORDS OF POPULAR SONGS PUBLISHED BETWEEN 1952 AND 1988 IN JAPAN, WE PICKED UP DESCRIPTIONS OF THE SCENES OF AND AROUND RAILROAD STATIONS TO OBTAIN THE TRANSIENCE OF THEIR IMAGE. WE DEFINED 3 MAJOR GROUPS AND 6 MINOR ONES CHARACTERIZING THE IMAGE TOWARD THE STATION FOR EACH PERIOD. IN ADDITION, WE CLARIFIED FEATURES OF THE IMAGE CONSIDERING OF THE HISTORY OF RAILROAD AND STATION DEVELOPMENTS, AND SOCIAL FACTORS.
