THE AIM OF THIS ARTICLE IS TO ANALYZE THE CAHARACTERISTICS OF THE MACRO-LOCATION OF EXISTING SMALL-SCALE RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENTS IN THE SUBURBS OF TOKYO METROPOLITAN AREA, AND TO SUGGEST THE WAY OF IMPROVING HOUSING ENVIRONMENT IN THESE DISTRICTS. IN THESE ANALYSES, THE DISTRICTS IN SMALL-SCALE RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENTS ARE CLASSIFIED BY THE DATA, THAT IS, THE YEAR WHEN THEY GOT INCLUDED INTO DID (DENSELY INHABITED DISTRICT), THE CONDITION OF LAND ADJUSTMENT, ZONING, AND TYPICAL LOT AREA IN THE DISTRICT. CONSIDERING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS CLASSIFICATION ON THE MACRO-LEVEL, THE ORIENTATION OF IMPROVING HOUSING ENVIRONMENT OF EACH CLASSIFIED DISTRICT IS SUGGESTED.
