SERVICE ROADS HAVING PEDESTRIAN PRIORITY (COMMUNITY ROADS) WERE CONSTRUCTED BOTH IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS AND COMMERCIAL AREAS. IN THE LATTER CASE, HOWEVER, THERE EXISTS A PLANNING TASK TO DECIDE HOW TO SHARE THE LIMITTED ROAD SPACE AMONG PEDESTRIANS BICYCLES, COMMERCIAL VEHICLES, STREET FURNITURES AND OTHERS. IN THIS STUDY, WE PROPOSE A WAY TO EVALUATE THE DESIRABLE USE OF ROAD SPACE, BY TRYING TO DESCRIBE THE DAILY USAGE PATTERN QUANTITATIVELY TO IDENTIFY THE PRESENT PROBLEMS, AND TO SHOW THE POSSIBLE EFFECTS OF REDESIGNING THE EXISTING COMMUNITY ROADS AND INTRODUCING TRAFFIC RESTRAINT SCHEMES.
