Abstract
This paper aims to investigate the casual relations between the character of district and the character of damage and reconstruction focusing on Kobe area attacked by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995. As a result of this study, authors pointed out following things: ratio of reconstruction has high casual relations with the character of district; the districts which value high ratio of the wooden construction and the building volume show high ratio of reconstruction. The districts which value high ratio of population density, small lots, and tenement housing, show low ratio of reconstruction; 6 types of areas derived through analysis well explains not only the character of the areas determined by regulations but the relations derived from the casual characters of damage and reconstruction; obstructing factors for reconstruction are derived as disconnection to the road and the complexity of rights.
