Abstract
The purpose of this study is to clarify the story of community development of "Keyaki Street" in Fukuoka City, consider about street tree's effect on community development, and show how to think of street tree when we plan, design and make roads. The findings include the following: (1) The engineer of Fukuoka City had happened to choose zelkova tree as street tree for "Keyaki Street" in 1958, and (2) the street trees of Keyaki Street became a symbol of the district image, and the local citizens have made much of this symbolic feature in community development. An important conclusion drawn from these findings is that street trees can become a symbol of the district image, and help local community be unified.
