Abstract
The purpose of this research is to investigate cultural differences in spatial cognition. The way- finding experimet using the map and/or the route guiding text is demonstrated, and the degree of uncertainty and the way-finding actions are observed. The main findings are: (1) the route guide text helps Americans' way-finding while it doesn't help Japanese way-finding, (2) the form of the streets on the map increases Americans' uncertainty while it reduces Japanese's uncertainty, (3) Americans check the spatial information at every crossing while Japanese check it only at turning points.
