Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the logistics systems on ancient highway using the mathematical methods. Ancient highway named "Shichido-Ekiro" was the first highway which connected the local governments named "Kokufu" among Japan with the capital in the eighth century. We construct the highway network data which is consist of road link and node and calculate the distance using the Geographical Information System. We compare the minimum spanning tree which is the least construction cost with the adjacent graph of the highway network. Transportation cost is proportional to distance and round trip days. Marine transport is faster and cheaper than road transport. As a result, we confirm that the logistics system in ancient took much time and cost than that in today.
