Abstract

This paper, therefore, proposes a conservation plan for the reuse of the sugar industrial heritage network in Chiayi County as a studying case. There are three main objectives in this study. 1. A part of the sugar factories is reused as public space by the Taiwan Sugar Corporation (TSC). 2. The process of the development of the local communities and the role of the sugar railways and stations from Singang Railway Park, to Din-Tsai-Yen, in this development. 3. A part of the sugar railway network connected the whole sugar industrial heritage is reused as bicycle routes, walkways, parks. Finally, this paper analyzes the mechanism, schematic diagram and impact of sugar industrial heritage conservation between community empowerment, Chiayi County Government and TSC.
