Abstract

"Transit mall" is one of the components of Light Rail Transit system for realizing town renovation. So many examples in foreign cities have been reported, but Japan is still under poor situation for installation of the new type mall because road or traffic administrators have inadequate knowledge for mixed traffic of pedestrians and Light Rail Vehicles. It can be thought as a background of such conditions in Japan that details of moving surroundings of LRV is not well known. In this study, behaviors of pedestrians on transit malls in foreign cities were recorded by a camcorder and quantitatively analyzed for revealing the start timing of crossing the tram tracks. At the end, it has been considered what kind of subjects exists for materialization of transit mall.
