Abstract
This study aims to suggest the ideal future compact city by analyzing the population density structure of Urbanization Promotion Area in local cities with the examination of urban structure because we consider that a present urban structure is important to set Residential Promotion Area. We selected seven detailed object cities by two analyses from 95 local cities. For 7 cities, we analyzed the relation between the population density structure at the time of three, 1970, 1990 and 2010, and the change of Urbanization Promotion Area and DID. The urban structure cannot be correctly judged from DID index alone, because even if the DID population density is high the population density at central area has been lower.
