Abstract
The purpose of this study is to comprehensively grasp policy and case of community-led transportation and to clarify the characteristics and existence of various forms of that in the suburbs of Tokyo where the number of elderly people will be increase rapidly. A questionnaire survey was conducted for all municipalities in the suburbs of Tokyo. The followings are major conclusions: 1) There are only 19 municipalities (11.5%) have community-led transportation support system. 2) Deficit covering rate of operation cost for operator driving community-led transportation 4 municipalities do not cover deficit. 3) Resident driving community-led transportation has various operating modes according to local circumstances. The authors have been able to provide useful knowledge that can give municipalities criterion to decide to introduce community-led transportation in the future.
