Abstract
In 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, there were delays in moving process of several evacuees into temporary housing. Facilitating their timely move from an evacuation center to a temporary housing facility is vital in the efficient closure of evacuation centers. This study aims to describe and investigate the moving process in Mashiki, Kumamoto, using interview survey data (N=1,052). We used duration modeling of delayed periods and a corresponding analysis of the interview data. We found that, typically, those who delayed moving included households with partially destroyed homes, single individuals without cars, respondents with no future housing plans, households with a longer residence period, and households designated to temporary housing that is far from their original home. Respondents whose answers implied that they were capable of rebuilding their lives were found to move earlier.
