Abstract
This research aims to test the viability of 'innovative town hypothesis' in the case of the nurturing innovation power in metropolitan cities, taking the case of Tokyo 23 wards areas. 'Innovation town hypothesis' is the hypothesis to explain the process of regional revitalization by making the town centers to be creative and multiple-use incubation areas. In order to test the hypothesis, this research conducted in Tokyo 23 wards areas (1) analysis of spatial structure from the viewpoint of creative city theory, (2) analysis of the urban forms from the viewpoint of variety, and (3) interview survey to key persons from the viewpoint of the formation of creative community. The research concludes that the Tokyo inner area has a favorable spatial structure and urban forms to form creative communities and thus it has functioned as the platform of incubation of creative industry.
