The aims of this paper are to quantitatively clarify the various values possessed by disaster remains, and examine the value composition of the disaster remains recognized by local residents as a case study of disaster remains of Mt.Unzen-Fugen, the former Onokoba primary school building. As a result, (1) this paper showed to classify the values of disaster remains into five categories, "historical value", "educational value", "memorial value" ,"value as a local resource", and "economical value". On the other hand, this paper suggested that those who were less experienced the disaster and were less familiar to the disaster remains had a relatively high proportion of the weights of "memorial value", "values as a local resource", and "economical value". (3) This paper showed that those who were more experienced the disaster and were familiar to the disaster remains had a relatively high benefit to the preservation of disaster remains.
