A new type of slurry that contains a new additive made of the polyacrylamides is developed for stable excavation in buried terrace gravel (btg) deposit by slurry shield. Three kinds of experiments were conducted in advance in order to apply the new slurry to the Ohgi-bashi shield tunnel of the Teito Rapid Transit Authority No.11 Line (Hanzomon line). From the results of the tests and the application to the excavation, the following conclusions were drawn.(1) The amount of the new slurry that leaked out of the chamber was less than the usual slurry.(2) The slurry has ground improvement effect, so that the slurry is suitable for the cohesionless sandy or gravel ground.
