Interventions from highly specialized professional coaches have attracted recent attention as a method of club activity support in junior high school, and the results of professional coaching have been reported; however, previous studies have qualitatively analyzed the views of coaches or introspection of athletes and learners who have been coached as linguistic data. This study aimed to clarify the bodily effects of dance instruction by a professional dancer on members of a university dance club. Seventeen club members who received dance instruction from a professional dancer consented to participate in a semi-structured qualitative interview to describe their experiences in detail. During the analysis, we considered the effects of instruction, including demonstrations by a professional dancer, and focused on its physical effects. After transcribing and analyzing the interviews, responses were classified as either “subjective awareness of bodily sensations” that members themselves experience and understood, or “objective awareness of bodily presentation” that was understood by observing the movements and works of a dancer. Linguistic and demonstration instruction was accompanied by multi-modal presentations such as visual and tactile information. According to the results of this study, we found that the physical influences of professional dance instruction included “concentration of consciousness on the body” towards the back, the angle of a body part, or the whole body; the “sensation of raising the center of gravity” such as pushing into the floor or pulling up the body; and “how to show movement” by encouraging a physical focus on making large movements at a slow pace.
