This special issue introduces NOx-To-Ammonia (NTA) technology that catalytically converts nitrogen oxides into ammonia. Nitrogen oxides emitted from internal combustion engines are currently regulated, and thus ammonia is used as the reducing agent to prevent their release into the environment. However, ammonia production requires harsh conditions of high temperature and high pressure. Conversion of nitrogen oxides into ammonia would enable an innovative energy-saving, cost-effective process. Our team, selected for the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Moon Shot Program, has proposed three distinct NTA methods (one-step method, storage method, and two-step method) that can be applied to different emission sources.
