Hemoglobin types in the Japanese bantam (Gallus domesticus)

Abstract

The starch gel electrophoretic patterns of the minor hemoglobin components of the Japanese bantam were classified into three types; Hb A, Hb B and Hb AB. The variant Hb A may be correspond to the mutant hemoglobin reported by CALLEGARINI et al (1967) and to the abnormal hemoglobin reported by WASHBURN (1968).
The Japanese bantam included 7 Hb A, 25 Hb AB and 9 Hb B type. The hemoglobins of 240 white Leghorns were monomorphic and were classified as Hb B.
