1. In order to determine the accumulation rate of protein in the magnum during the egg formation cycle, Single Comb White Leghorn hens aged 70 weeks were fed a corn-soybean meal diet and killed at 3 hrs before and 0, 2, 5 and 10 hrs after ovulation.
2. The accumulation rate was not constant. It was estimated to be 0.010∼0.020g/hr for 5 hrs and 0.127∼0.140g/hr for 16 hrs from 5 to 21 hrs after ovulation. It increased to 0.477g/hr for 3 hrs before the next ovulation.
3. The maximum amount of soluble protein in the magnum was 7.10 g at ovulation time which was equivalent of two egg albumen. The soluble protein equivalent of one egg albumen was withdrawn after the ovum passed through the magnum.
4. The SDS-PAGE pattern of soluble protein separated from the magnum at 5 stages of the egg formation cycle was similar to that of egg white.
