Detailed neutron diffraction measurements were performed on a single crystalline sample of Er¹¹B₂C₂. We observed magnetic diffuse scattering, which consists of three components, just above the transition temperatures. This scattering is also observed in anomalous antiferroquadrupolar ordering compounds,TbB₂C₂ and HoB₂C₂. The results of the experiments indicate that the antiferroquadrupolar interaction is not essential for the origin of the magnetic diffuse scattering.
