Helicons-TO Phonons Coupling in Degenerate Polar Semiconductors

The coupling of helicons and transverse optical (TO) phonons in degenerate polar semiconductors is investigated from the viewpoint of electromagnetic linear response theory and of dynamical self-consistent field method. The cyclotron frequency of charge carriers in magnetic field of appropriate strength attainable by the contemporary laboratory technique becomes of the same order of magnitude as the TO phonon frequency, and remarkable coupling of the two modes takes place. The dispersion equations of the normal modes are derived and computed for n-type InSb under appropriate conditions.
