Elastic Constants and Ultrasonic Absorption of Sodium Nitrite Single Crystals

All elastic constants of sodium nitrite have been determined by the measurement of ultrasonic velocity. Absorption coefficients α₁₁, α₂₂ and α₃₃ and their temperature dependence have been studied with special emphasis on their behavior in the temperature range of the phase transition. It turned out that the α₂₂ seems to obey the expression α₂₂∝{−ln(T−T_N)+A}² in the temperature range immediately above T_N.
