A theta pinch gun is operated to get a plasma stream in a longitudinal magnetic field which is uniform over a region of 1 m in length. Plasma parameters such as density, temperature and traveling velocity can be controlled by changing the charging voltage of the capacitor bank for the gun and the strength of the uniform field. The loss rate of the transverse energy of a plasma stream is proportional to the so-called Bohm diffusion rate for both deuterium and helium plasmas.
