Electron Impact Spectra of Mercury in Intermediate Energies

The electron impact spectra have been measured for electron energies between 300 eV and 1000 eV and scattering angles between 50° and 110°. The ratio of the inelastic to elastic cross section has been less than about 5×10⁻² for 6¹P and 6p′³P excitations in the energy regions mentioned above. The angular dependences of both the cross sections for 6¹P and 6p′³P excitations have been similar but rather smoother than that of the elastic one. Strictly forbidden 7¹S excitation has been observed in the electron impact energies between 300 eV and 500 eV.
