Far-Infrared Magneto-Reflection and the Dielectric Constant in Graphite under High Magnetic Fields

A new structure has been found in the far-infrared magneto-reflection spectra under high magnetic fields. The structure is attributed to the electron-hole coupled plasma mode in a classical point of view. A line-shape analysis is carried out quantum mechanically on the basis of the Slonczewski-Weiss-McClure band model. This analysis can reproduce not only the new structure mentioned above but also the total line-shapes fairly well. Analysing the calculated dielectric constant, the origins of the new structure and other characteristic structures are explored. As for the new structure, it is concluded that the electron-hole coupled plasma mode is the main origin, but the transition between the Landau levels n=−1 and n=0 also gives a little contribution to the structure.
