Abstract

The basic characteristics arid the design principles of energy analyzers commonly used in electron spectroscopy are discussed, mainly from an electron optical point of view. Combined effect of energy dispersion and convergent lens action is the essence of the operation of energy analysers; these are the main factors which contribute to the resolution and sensitivity of spectrometers.
