Correspondence to the seriousness of global environmental issues are required to the automobiles, as well as driving performances strongly required from the end-users. As a technology to improve both requirements, the variable valve actuation system, which controls valve events and lifts continuously, has been developed. This paper describes features of the system as well as the knowledge and test results obtained through the development of the system until it reaches the mass-production stage.
