Abstract
The injection pressure of conventional DME engine is lower than 60MPa, because bulk modulus of DME is low. In order to obtain new insights into the performance improvement of the DME engine, DME spray characteristics under high injection pressure up to 140MPa are examined in the condition equal with the engine(4.5MPa-800K), Internal structures of DME spray were analyzed by using the computational code KIVA-3V. Results showed that the macro characteristics of DME spray was almost the same as diesel fuel spray. An increase in fuel injection pressure would boost spray development while the vaporization distance did not change because vaporization was enhanced at the same time. The air entrainment of the spray was increased and overall equivalence ratio in the spray was lowered with higher the injection pressure.
