Abstract
In order to improve the lubricant property of the blend fuel of JIS no.2 diesel fuel (gas oil) and 1-butanol up to that of gas oil, adding rapeseed oil methyl ester (RME) to the 1-butanol/gas oil blend was tried, and the fuel properties, diesel combustion and emission characteristics of the blend fuels with 40 mass% 1-butanol were investigated using a DI diesel engine. By adding RME to the 1-butanol/gas oil blend, the kinematic viscosity of the blend fuel increases and the smoke emission reduces due to the increase in the oxygen content of the fuel although the NOx emission slightly increases.
