Abstract

Research on shredder for chopping roll bales to process mixed feed was carried out. A prototype of shredder with new cutting mechanism, in which roll bales are cut squarely with two kinds of cutters aranged in right angle, were developed. Degree of chopping, ease of handling and power requirements of the prototype were investigated, useing silage, straw and hay roll bales, the first bales being our main target. The low power requirements and the precision of chopping attained our target, but the portion which can not be cut (remainder of disposition) occurs as the cutting mechanism premise that the objects maintain column shape. The disposition quantity per hour was lower than our target, and is necessary to further improve the performance.
