Abstract
Flexible double-lumen catheter (FDL catheter) was designed as temporary blood access. It's necessary to obtain large quantity of flow (ml/min) that in the limited outside diameter of a catheter, the size of arterial line (A line) is to be larger than that of venous line (V line), also that the wall thickness of A line is to be thicker than that of V line. FDL catheter (12F) has been finally made after repeated trial production to meet two criteria: 1) maximum blood flow of A line is more than 300ml/min 2) the pressure of V line is below 100mmHg under the condition of 200ml/min. FDL catheter is made of silicone rubber and teflon tube is inserted into the inner side of the catheter to reduce the friction resistance between FDL catheter and guide wire. FDL catheter can be inserted into the inferior or superior vena cava by Seldinger method.
