Abstract
We developed a new type of activated charcoal. This material is stick shaped charcoal being made of superior coal, its mean diameter ranging 0.7mm and length ranging 130mm, the effective surface area being 995m2/gr and macro polus being 0.478ml/gr. In present study, in vitro adsorption of creatinine, uric acid, bilirubin and amino acids were tested with this material. In vivo test of direct hemoperfusion using dogs, changes of blood flow and pressure drop across the column were measured with column of this material. As results of in vitro and vivo tests, it suggests that stick shaped charcoal was similar in adsorbability to conventional bead charcoal and column of this material was able to use DHP without blood pump for no pressure drop in column.
