Abstract
Thirty nine times of plasma exchanges were performed on 10 patients who were suffering from multiple organ failure including heart, lung, kidney, brain and coagulatory system and so on. Two patients were survived. The improvement of organ functions by the mean of plasma exchange were obtained at 60% in heart, 40% in lung, 80% in liver, 40% in kidney, 40% in brain and 50% in DIC. Many of blood components significantly improved following the procedure such as TB, BUN, GOT, GPT, ATIII, FDP and lipid peroxides. Imbalance of both amino and fatty acids were not influenced despite of this treatment. Plasma exchange is thought to be an useful therapy for MOF.
