Abstract
On listening to speech sensorineural hearing impaired subjects are liable to miss the consonant part of a monosyllable and recognize only the following vowel. From psychoacoustic experiments we have found that emphasizing the consonant part could aid such subjects in their speech discriminating ability. We have therefore develope a hearing aid with a speech recognition system in which consonant and vowel sounds are separated.
After placing appropriare emphasis, the monosyllable is resynthesized and fed on-line to the earphone. With assurance of improved hearing for these patients, we developed a computer hearing aid with the speech recognition system.
